Bubba Wallace Reveals His Inspirational ‘Call of Duty’ Exchange With Lewis Hamilton

Bubba Wallace is definitely riding on a high after his Talladega Superspeedway win. Ahead of the Cup Series race at the Charlotte Roval, the 23XI Racing driver spoke about his win on home soil. In addition to that, he revealed that he had a casual conversation with F1 superstar, Lewis Hamilton. According to Wallace, Hamilton told him that if he did not believe in himself and did not put the work is, he would not win.

He said, “The expectations that weigh the most are the expectations that live in between my two ears. It’s all in my mindset. I was able to talk to Lewis Hamilton yesterday. He was asking me whether I wanted to play some Call of Duty, he said ‘what clicked? what changed? This is big’. I said, ‘Man! it just kind of happened. Talladega is Talladega and we were there at the right time’. It’s gotta feel good. He asked what it felt like and I said, ‘when you tell yourself you can’t do it, accomplishing that is the best feeling ever’.”

How did Bubba Wallace perform at the Charlotte Roval?

Admittedly, the 23XI Racing driver could not repeat his Talladega heroics in Charlotte. Instead, he finished down in 14th place, which, in all honesty, is still fairly respectable. Sadly, he had a mixed bag of a race, especially when he incurred a stop-and-go penalty for missing the backstretch chicane. Obviously, the penalty seriously hampered his progress up the order.

Other than that, it was a pretty quiet race for him after starting in 15th place. Meanwhile, Kyle Larson won the race ahead of Tyler Reddick and Chris Buescher. Kyle Busch and Denny Hamlin finished in 4th and 5th places, respectively. The two Joe Gibbs Racing drivers were ahead of Matt DiBenedetto, Joey Logano, Christopher Bell, Ryan Blaney, and Alex Bowman.
