F1 Constructor & Driver Standings After 2021 Turkish GP: Who is Ahead – Mercedes of Red Bull?

Turkish GP might just prove to be an essential race in the championship battle between Mercedes and Red Bull. The Istanbul Park track was a Mercedes track, but the Austrian team did the most damage as they both cars on the podium. The race also saw a change in drivers’ standings as Verstappen got past Hamilton.

The race might not be the best of the season, but it certainly was one of the most difficult for strategies. In the end, it was the strategy that cost Lewis Hamilton the podium.

Red Bull benefit from Mercedes disaster at Turkish GP

As reported by Formula1.com, the Austrian team might not have made a dent in the standings, but certainly made a dent in Mercedes’s progress. They were not as quick as their rivals but made the most of the weekend clawed their way in terms of points.

Another takeaway from the weekend was the pace of Ferrari. The Italian team dominated their rivals, McLaren, in the Turkish GP as they scored 16 points to McLaren’s 6.

They had both their cars in the top-10 while Mclaren finished in P7 with Norris. They have also closed the gap for third place in the championship.

Max Verstappen takes the championship lead from Lewis Hamilton

The drivers’ title lead is once again with Max Verstappen. The Dutch driver finished the race in P2 while his rival Lewis Hamilton finished in P5. Verstappen now has a lead of 6 points from the 7-time world champion with 6 races to go in the 2021 season.

Valtteri Bottas also extended his lead in the third-place from Lando Norris after his win in the Turkish GP. Charles Leclerc is 0.5 points behind his teammate, Carlos Sainz, for the battle for P6. Daniel Ricciardo did not get any points after he started from the back of the field and remains in P8.

The next stop for Formula One is US Grand Prix. The track is another Mercedes stronghold, but Red Bull will look to do more damage and gain some more points in the championship.
