Former Nets Star Wants a Mention When Kevin Durant Has His Number 7 In The Rafters For Brooklyn

The Brooklyn Nets see themselves in quite some trouble because of the situation with Kyrie Irving. However, that doesn’t take away from their roster. The main reason for that is they still have the duo of Kevin Durant and James Harden on the floor. With their free agency signings being great role players as well, they are yet again favorites to go all the way this season.

Well, they could have made it last season, but injuries came in at the wrong time. Despite the circumstances, Durant almost carried them through all by himself. There is no doubt of his greatness in the league. Ever since coming in, he has matured his game every time. Even though he battled a serious ACL injury, he came back like nothing ever happened.

The number 7 for the Nets is one of the most skilled scorers of all time. If he does stay with Brooklyn in the long term, there is a high probability of his jersey being in the rafters. However, a former Net wants his own mention there as well.

Joe Johnson wants a tag alongside Kevin Durant

Before the Nets formed their elite team, Johnson was the big player on their roster. He was the guy who hit all the big shots and had ice in his veins. Like Durant, he too wore the jersey number 7 and Johnson gave it justice. Recently, he put up a comment on Instagram stating that he wants to be associated with the number 7 when it goes up in the rafters.

Similar to KD, Johnson was a prolific scorer on the Nets roster. He spent a total of 4 seasons with the organisation. While he didn’t put up over 20 points in any season, his impact came in crunch time. Johnson made his name on being one of the best isolation players at the time. That with the combination of his clutch ability, he became one of the most deathly players in the dying minutes.

His achievements are often overlooked because he never gained popularity. Johnson ranks among the top players for most buzzer beaters hit. In fact, he takes the second spot over LeBron James with 8 buzzer beaters in his career. Kevin Durant is yet to cross the five mark. Johnson’s true prowess came in show during the time it was most needed. He showed up when it mattered and solidified himself as one of the clutch players in the league.
