Tyson Fury Defends Reporter Who Received Backlash for Talking About Mental Health

Following the incredible fight between Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder, a question asked by a reporter appalled fans. Fury and Wilder fought each other in what became an instant heavyweight classic match. Many even dubbed the fight the greatest heavyweight fight of all time.

Well, moments after this amazing spectacle, journalist Gareth Davies faced the wrath of ‘The Gypsy King‘s adoring fans. During the post-fight press conference, Davies asked Fury, “After a thrilling contest like that, you must be incredibly proud of yourself. But are you really going to fall into a depression?”

For those commenting and with very strong views about my qns on mental health with @Tyson_Fury just now. It was not perfectly worded at the press conf but we have talked about these issues together for years.. pic.twitter.com/Lyj44cKtHr

The question was in response to Fury’s comments a few days prior to the fight, where he stated that without boxing, he would be a very sad man. Fury did not take the question in an offensive way and replied very professionally. However, fans on the internet thought the journalist went too far with his question.

To clear up the misunderstanding, Davies met up with Fury during a party he was attending and asked Fury about the whole situation. Fury replied, saying, “I actually thought it was quite a good question,” Fury told Davies. “Always talk about mental health, we always do.”

Davies responded saying, “They don’t know I sent you messages when you weren’t well”. To which Fury replied, “And they also don’t know that I sent you messages when you weren’t well.” Well, it looks like Davies’ question did not phase Fury, judging from their friendship outside the ring.

What’s next for Tyson Fury?

Fury will now look to defend his WBC title against mandatory challenger Dillian Whyte. The longtime interim titleholder Dillian Whyte will finally get a crack at the WBC title. However, while, Whyte is an underdog going into this fight. For Fury, this will be a routine title defense. And fans expect the Gypsy King to make light work out of Whyte.

The WBC have now officially confirmed that the winner of Tyson Fury vs Deontay Wilder III will be ordered to defend vs Dillian Whyte next, providing he beats Otto Wallin on Oct 30th and they can’t make an undisputed fight vs Oleksandr Usyk (who must rematch Anthony Joshua). pic.twitter.com/IJrKhUTa0K

After his mandatory title defense, Fury will look to unify the heavyweight titles by fighting the winner of the Anthony ‘AJ’ Joshua vs Oleksandr ‘The Cat’ Usyk rematch.

Who do you think Fury should fight next? Will he become the unified champion of the world again?
