Aisling Bea has shocked her fanbase as the trailer for her latest movie was released.

A reimagining of the iconic 1990 movie Home Alone, Home Sweet Home Alone sees Aisling Bea in the role of Carol, mother of 10-year-old Max, who is played by Archie Yates, who previously appeared in Jojo Rabbit.

While Aisling is taking over the role from the marvellous Catherine O’Hara, who played Kevin’s (Macaulay Culkin) mum in the original and in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, fans could not help but focus on one specific detail of the trailer: Aisling’s uncharacteristic English accent.

Many took to Twitter to voice their shock at seeing the Irish actress without her usual intonation.

‘Aisling Bea with an English accent… I’m reporting this for offensive content,’ joked one fan.

‘What have they done to Aisling Bea’s gorgeous accent?!?’ complained another commenter.

Another person wrote: ‘WHY IS AISLING BEA DOING AN ENGLISH ACCENT??????’

‘The honestly weirdest thing about this trailer is seeing Aisling Bea do a super curt English accent. Slightly unnerving,’ added one.

‘Aisling Bea doing an English accent is so wrong,’ stated a further upset fan.

Like in the original movie, Max is a mischievous and resourceful young boy who gets left behind by his family during the general mayhem as they set to leave to spend the holidays in Japan.

The family is supposed to fly out on two separate flights and it’s not until they land on the other side of the world that they realise Max was on neither flight.

Having the time of his life without his family, Max is soon faced with a threat when a married couple attempting to retrieve a priceless heirloom (played by Rob Delaney and Ellie Kemper) set their sights on the Mercer family’s home.

It’s up to Max to protect the house in the only way he knows how: boobie traps.

While this reboot is not a one-to-one retelling of the story, eagle-eyed viewers have noticed one key detail in the trailer that links the movies together.

In one shot of the movie, we see a policeman coming to the house, wearing a nametag that reads McCallister.

More: Disney Plus

According to IMDb, the character’s name is Buzz, making him Buzz McCallister, i.e. Kevin’s older brother.

For more Easter Eggs, we’ll have to wait till November 12 to find out when the movie releases exclusively on Disney Plus.
