Bake Off viewers grossed out as Freya serves up sticky toffee pudding with tuile she dropped on the floor

Great British Bake Off viewers were left disgusted after Freya Cox served up a sticky toffee pudding with a tuile she had dropped on the floor.

The 19-year-old student had a disaster while competing in the blind technical challenge which required the bakers to make a perfect sticky toffee pudding.

While making the tuile embellishment – a thin baked wafer for the uninitiated – Freya managed to drop it on the floor before it made it into the oven.

Conscious of the time restrictions, Freya did not want to waste time making it all over again, so she popped it into the oven to cook regardless.

The vegan baker served up the dish for the blind taste test, which did not go down well with viewers.

They tweeted: ‘Freya. You cannot serve Paul and Prue floor pudding’ and ‘You can’t feed people food that’s been on the floor!’

Others added: ‘You can’t put something that’s touched the floor in the oven’ and ‘I hope Pru and Paul refuse to taste the one that went on the floor.’

However some believed it was fine, adding: ‘5 second rule Freya’ and ‘the thought of Freya feeding Paul Hollywood fluffy carpet tuille brings me more joy than it should’.

Earlier in the show, the bakers were tasked with creating a pavlova, though thankfully all of those managed to make it to the taste test without gracing the floor first.

Great British Bake Off continues from 8pm on Tuesday on Channel 4.
