Where is Murder Island filmed? Channel 4’s Scottish location revealed

Channel 4’s new part-fiction, part-reality show Murder Island has been controversial from the get-go.
The series sees eight wannabe detectives – all real members of the UK public – gather on a remote, dramatic island and ‘compete’ to solve a fictional woman’s murder.
Another element is that the grisly killing of (entirely made-up) character Charly Hendricks – and the long list of suspects to choose from – was created by renowned crime writer Ian Rankin.
It’s an unusual concept, which many seem to love, but doesn’t sit right with others.
But for those intrigued and watching, you may be wondering where the titular island is.

The show is filmed on the Isle of Gigha in Scotland.
It’s a remote island off the coast of Kintyre, a peninsula located in western Scotland.
Gigha is one of the 23 islands (with a population, anyway) making up Argyll and Bute.
Its population is absolutely tiny: just 160 people are said to have residence of the island.
But amazingly, the community of Gigha actually own the island themselves, having purchased it via a trust in 2002.

Gigha is quite small at only seven miles long and 1.5 miles wide at its widest point – as well as being Hebrides’ most southerly island.
Therefore, it’s not the easiest place in the world to get to for a visit.
Typically, you’ll pass through Glasgow to reach Tayinloan on the Kintyre coast, a journey which takes around two hours.
From there, you’ll cross to the island in a 20-minutes ferry – which you can just hop on, no need to book.
Gigha, as many who have already visited will agree, is worth the extra effort.
Like many Scottish islands, it is home to natural splendour, sandy beaches and pristine seas – as well as an abundance of wildlife wonders from birds to sea creatures.
Murder Island airs on Tuesdays at 9.15pm on Channel 4.
