WWE Raw results, grades: Drew McIntyre attacks Big E as Bobby Lashley vows to end Goldberg’s career

Drew McIntyre laid out WWE Champion Big E as an eventful episode of Raw came to a close.
Monday night was something of a mixed bag with the King of the Ring and Queen’s Crown tournaments being at opposite ends of the spectrum, but the main event provided some genuine excitement before Crown Jewel next week.
The night opened with McIntyre heading to the ring, only to be interrupted by a fired-up Big E.
The champ – who certainly has a way with words – admitted he understands why Drew wants the title back, as he referenced nectar dripping down his body.
The Scottish Warrior fired back and vowed to steamroll the New Day man, but The Usos interrupted and they exchanged gave way to a blockbuster main event.
Jimmy and Jey made sure to attack their opponents to bring the segment to a close, and the stage was set.
The idea of tag partners that don’t get along is something WWE likes to revisit a lot – in fact, we saw other examples of it on this very show – but it worked well here.
The match itself was absolutely fantastic, and things descended exactly as they should when McIntyre pulled Big E out of the ring as he was trying to get them the win.
They brawled at ringside with Drew getting busted open on the announce table, and the WWE Champion was counted out before Jimmy and Jey hit stereo dives over the top.
The Crown Jewel opponents fought back, but there was time for one more twist as McIntyre hit a Claymore on his rival to stand tall as Raw went off the air.
Bobby Lashley threatens Goldberg, Xavier Woods progresses in King of the Ring, and Becky Lynch stands tall over rivals
The first match of the night saw Xavier Woods progress to the semi-finals of the King of the Ring in a fantastic match with Ricochet.
This played to both men’s strengths, and the New Day star picking up the win ensures the dream of him winning the crown is still alive.
Hurt Business’ Shelton Benjamin and Cedric Alexander made quick work of Mustafa Ali and Mansoor, with Cedric’s Michinoku Driver on Ali earning the win as Benjamin held Mansoor back.

Ali knocked his partner to the mat and stormed out after the bell, and later in the show he berated him backstage before attacking him from behind, setting up a match in Saudi Arabia next week.
Elsewhere, the Queen’s Crown tournament continued as Shayna Baszler destroyed Dana Brooke in the kind of match the Queen of Spades should be having right now.
However, the other tournament match later in the show – which saw Doudrop beat Natalya in a decent bout – was also very short, meaning all four first round matches amount to less then nine minutes ring time.

This needs to improve with the semi-finals, but it feels like a missed opportunity by WWE to make the inaugural tournament mean something more.
Anyway, we also saw Riddle – without Randy Orton to help him – challenged Omos to a match, and he had to cope without the Viper.
The giant destroyed the Original Bro in an easy win, with Styles adding to the story by demanding slow-mo replays before Orton sneaked in and hit him with an RKO after the bell.
Bobby Lashley had some strong words for Goldberg, tearing the WCW legend down and vowing to end his career when they meet in a No Holds Barred match on October 21.

Austin Theory beat Jeff Hardy in a fun but brief match marred by 24/7 nonsense, but the former NXT star picked up a major win in his in-ring Raw debut.
In the final King of the Ring first round matc, Jinder Mahal – thanks to a distraction as Veer and Shanky fought with Woods at ringside – beat Kofi Kingston, meaning fans won’t get an all-New Day semi final next week.
Finally, the proposed tag team match pitting Sasha Banks and Bianca Belair against Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair descended into chaos right away as the Legit Boss and EST of WWE couldn’t agree who would start the bout.
The Man attacked them but ended up being shoved into the Queen on the apron, which led to a wild brawl between all four superstars.

Eventually, Adam Pearce and Sonya Deville ordered them to get in the ring and start the match, but it didn’t do much good until after the break.
They eventually did get the match underway, but by the end it all went south again when Flair slapped Becky to tag herself in and prevent her getting the win, before Bianca attacked Sasha and the referee called for a double DQ.
Eventually, Lynch was the last woman standing after another brawl.
*WWE Raw airs Monday nights at 1am on BT Sport 1.
