Allyson Felix Pens an Emotional Letter to Her Younger Self on International Day of The Girl

Back in 2018, the American track and field athlete Allyson Felix paired up with ‘Athleta’ after breaking it off with Nike. Athleta is an organization that focuses on women’s clothing and other accessories in sports and fitness.

Felix even started her own brand, ‘Saysh,’ and is gearing up for the launch of its first offline store.

On the International Day of the Girl Child, October 11, 2021, the brand posted a letter on Instagram that Felix wrote to her younger self. The emotional letter moved fans as Felix opened her heart out.

A letter to young Allyson Felix

The American Sprinter shared a letter that she wrote to her younger self. She encouraged herself as well as everyone with the help of this letter. The letter read, “Dear Allyson, There will be people in your life who tell you you’re too this or too that. Don’t listen to other voices, listen to your own. You can be whoever you want to be: Mother, champion, activist, CEO. This is just the beginning. – Allyson.”

The emotional letter, penned to her younger self, asked the young Felix to not listen to the comments of others. It encouraged her to only listen to her own voice, and believe she could be whatever she wished to be.

What made Felix choose Athleta over Nike?

In 2017, Allyson Felix walked out of her Nike contract. Felix wanted a new sponsor which, according to her, should give women and their health equal priority. Notably, Nike slashed a 70% pay cut in her contract, citing her pregnancy concerns.

Hence, she went ahead and signed an apparel deal with Athleta. The chief marketing officer of Athleta, Sheila Shekar Pollak explained why and how they came up with the thought of partnering up with Felix.

“Just a couple of months ago we had been talking about how do we really create deeper, even more, holistic and meaningful partnerships with some of these athletes,” said Shekar Pollak.

“And that’s serendipitously exactly when Allyson really took her stance—we all read the op-ed and watched her video and we were just so deeply moved by it,” Shekar added.

Felix is very satisfied with partnering up with Athleta. The reason behind this is the amazing treatment and support women get here, not just as athletes but as women too. Following Felix, Olympic legend Simone Biles has also signed a deal with Athleta.
