Andy Murray’s Rankings Drastically Drops to World No.172 After Defeat Against Alexander Zverev

Andy Murray’s stunning performance at Indian Wells has come to an end. The World No. 4, Alexander Zverev excelled Andy Murray in straight sets. Zverev, who has been in marvelous form this season continues his campaign at Indian Wells. In the round of 16, Zverev will face the Frenchman, Gael Monfils.

Andy Murray started the tournament with ATP Rankings of World No. 121. However, after his loss against the German, the rank remarkably dropped from 121 to 172. A drop of more than 50 places was witnesses after he was knocked out of the tournament.

A substantial drop in Andy Murray’s ATP rankings

Andy Murray started his campaign at Indian Wells with a fine first two matches. In his second match, the Brit overcame a one-set deficit against Carlos Alcaraz. Unfortunately, Zverev outshined Murray in the third round.

Following his defeat at Indian Wells, Murray’s ATP rankings have drastically descended. He started the season with World No. 121 and presently he has acquired World No. 172.

By surpassing Andy Murray, Alexander Zverev registered victories against all of the Big 4 on an ATP tour.

After the match, Zverev said, “He’s the only one of the Big Four that I hadn’t beaten yet, so I’m happy that I’ve done it today. Obviously it was a fantastic match. I thought Andy played extremely well, maybe as well as he’s played since the surgery. I hope he continues playing the same way because tennis did miss him for a long time and I think it’s good to have him back.”

Andy Murray to miss Davis Cup

Andy Murray announced after his match against Zverev that he’ll miss the upcoming Davis Cup. He quoted, “Right now, I’m not planning on playing the Davis Cup and with the late finish to it, and early departure to Australia, with my schedule between now and the end of the year, I am going to have to rest and take a break and give my body a chance to breathe.”

He went on to praise Cameron Norrie and Dan Evans and believes they along with Liam Broady will make a great team.
