I asked my brother to watch my kids as I gave birth, he left them in the hospital – so he’s banned from seeing my baby

A MUM was left furious when she asked her brother to watch her two kids while she was giving birth, only to find out he left them at the hospital.

The woman revealed she’s now banned her brother from meeting his newborn nephew, as a result of him ditching her other two children to help his girlfriend when her car broke down.

Sharing her story to Reddit, the mum, who lost her husband while she was four months pregnant with her third child, fumed over her brother’s actions and insisted her had “let her down”.

She wrote: “I [female, 34] lost my husband (30) in a car accident when I was 4 months pregnant with our 3rd child. I’ve gone through a very difficult period trying to balance everything in my life while taking care of my kids.

“I don’t have a large family to help and my husband came from foster care and never seen his [bilogical] family. I have a brother (Austin) who’s younger than me. He loves my kids and is a caring uncle.

“He’s always ready to watch my kids anytime I ask and help with whatever. But his girlfriend isn’t always welcoming [to] my kids. I’ve arranged for my kids to go stay with Austin when I have my scheduled c-section.

“He said he was available. I asked again and told him it’s okay if he couldn’t and will just get a sitter but he threw a fit and shamed me for saying that stating we are here for each other.”

Going on to reveal what happened when she was in hospital giving birth, the mum shared that while she was in theatre, her kids were dropped off at the hospital by her brother and left with nurses.

“I had him come take the kids on the day of the operation and he said he’d stay in contact with the doctors. Everything went well and my newborn son was healthy. Though I had some minor complications but nothing major.

“The nurse came in to tell me my kids were there. I was confused as she explained that my brother dropped them off and they were staying with the nurse.

“I was shocked I freaked out thinking something serious must’ve happened otherwise why he’d drop my kids off at the hospital after he agreed to watch them.”

When she contacted her brother, the woman revealed that he didn’t reply until hours later and explained that his girlfriend’s car had broken down and he had to fix it for her.

“He said he had no choice but to bring the kids to where I was staying after his girlfriend pressured him to come help even though he explained the situation to her, but she lashed out asking why my kids were more important than her,” the mum wrote.

“I was so mad and felt like I was let down. I argued with him about how he didn’t help me in my roughest times and that he shouldn’t [have] brought my kids to the hospital especially the last time they’ve been to a hospital was to see their dad, which was traumatising to them.”

When her brother called the next day asking to see the new baby, the mum refused.

She said: “He got upset saying that I can’t be mad at him because he had no choice and that this is his nephew and he has the right to see him.

“I said I won’t let him come visit to see my son after the stunt he pulled on me knowing I was counting on him to keep my kids safe under his care.

“He got pushy and insisted saying he’ll just show up anyway but I said I won’t let him in I’m serious. He said I was treating him unfairly and being too hard on him after he’s already done so much for me.

“He asked if this is what Justin would want because what I was doing is not letting him be a father figure to my kids. I angrily told him to leave my husband out of it and hung up.”

She revealed that she hasn’t “seen or spoken” to her brother since, adding: “I’m mad but feel like I was being unfair by not letting him meet my son.”

The mum’s post racked up hundreds of comments, with plenty of people calling out the brother for his behaviour.

“He could have told the girlfriend to be an adult and deal with it herself. I’m single, I sort the car out myself when it breaks down,” said one person.

Another commented: “C section is major surgery. OP was in no condition to care for her kids and the nurses are not a day care centre.”

A third wrote: “I’m surprised the hospital even let him drop the kids off. Nurses are not babysitters.”

“Heck. He could have even originally told OP he couldn’t watch the kids in the first place so she could just set up the sitter and that would have still been a better choice,” offered another.

One more added: “Why on earth would he just drop kids off with a random nurse in the hospital while you were recovering from major surgery That Day. Huge gaping oversight of Any kind of common sense. NTA. But his gf is just as much to blame. What a manipulative so and so.”
