Millions of Brits have no clue if they have deadly obesity – take this test to find out

MILLIONS of Brits don’t know if they are at risk of having deadly obesity.

It’s a condition that can cause a host of other problems if not dealt with, but often people have no clue they are in danger.

Many Brits won’t know if they have dangerously obesity

Only a third of Brits know their Body Mass Index, which is a key indicator of your risk levels.

And while 78 per cent do know their weight, according to digital pharmacy medino.com, this doesn’t mean they know if they are overweight.

There is a simple test you can take to find out if you are at risk of obesity – it’s an NHS Body Mass Index calculator.

The BMI is helpful because while you might not think you are overweight, even a few extra pounds could increase your risk of future health problems.

Carrying excess weight, even if it’s just a little, has been linked to type 2 diabetes, stroke, heart disease and 11 different types of cancer.

The body mass index is a formula used to decipher whether patients are of a healthy weight.

Those who have a BMI of 18.5-25 are considered to be a healthy weight.

If your number is between 25 and 30 you are considered overweight and if it goes above 30 you’re considered obese.

Many medical professionals believe that having a BMI that’s too high or low can increase your risk of health problems

Giulia Guerrini, the lead pharmacist at medino.com comments on the findings: “It’s quite shocking to see that although 78 per cent of UK residents know their weight, less than a third know their BMI, resulting in a lack of understanding about healthy lifestyles and the impact of high or low weight on the body.”

On top of the NHS test, there are a variety of NHS endorsed apps that can help people introduce small changes that will help them eat better and get active – and all of them are free.

It includes the NHS Weight Loss Plan app that has shown to help people lose a stone in three months.

Public Health England has launched its new Better Health campaign to try and get Britons to slim down after Covid.

Measuring your waist is also a good way to check you’re not carrying too much fat around your stomach.

Regardless of your height or BMI, you should try to lose weight if your waist is 94cm (37ins) or more for men or 80cm (31.5ins) or more for women.

This BMI calculator on the NHS website can help you work out if you are overweight
