Stephen Curry on the Verge of Breaking Yet Another Shooting Record in the Upcoming Season

Stephen Curry is considered the pioneer who revolutionized three-point shooting in the NBA. And now, in far fewer games than Ray Allen, Stephen Curry is set to become the player with the most three-point shots in the NBA. Ray Allen, the current holder of the record, had 2973 three pointers made in 1300 games.

In 762 games played, Steph Curry already has 2832 three-point shots made. What makes Curry’s feat even more surprising is the comparison with Reggie Miller. Miller is arguably the most voluminous three-point shooter from the 1990s era. Looking at Curry’s trajectory of 3 points, ending up with almost double the number of threes made as Miller is improbable, but not out of the question for him.

Stephen Curry: The revolutionary three-point shooter

In the 1990s, it was a common perception that three-point shooting cannot win teams a championship. Unfortunately, the fact that Reggie Miller never won a championship supported this perception. However, Ray Allen was the first successful player known for his volume shooting from beyond the arc to win multiple championships. Nevertheless, even he could not imagine the degree to which Curry would take the skill.

Curry’s 2832 three-point shots made come in 6540 attempts(43.3%). While Ray Allen’s 2973 were made in 7429 attempts (40%). So Curry has not only beaten Allen in terms of percentage but also in terms of volume. For Curry’s 12 seasons in the NBA compared to Allen’s 18, Curry roughy has 6-7 more years in the league easily.

Therefore, it is extremely likely that Curry will beat the record. But it is a question of when and how far will he leave them behind by the end of his career. It is surprising that despite this incredible statistic, Ray Allen still believes Reggie Miller is the best shooter of all time.
