Hold onto your hats as Netflix’s You has already been renewed for season 4.

Penn Badgley will reprise his role as stalker and killer Joe Goldberg in season 3 which arrives on Netflix this Friday.

However, the streaming service has treated fans to an early surprise with the news that it will definitely return for season 4.

Co-creator Sera Gamble told Variety in a statement: ‘Reading Caroline’s novel, Greg and I were instantly obsessed with Joe Goldberg and his twisted world view. And it’s been thrilling to watch Penn bring Joe to creepy yet compelling life.

‘We’re deeply grateful that Netflix has shown You such monumental support, and that people around the world have enjoyed watching Joe really get it all very wrong over the past 3 seasons.

‘The whole You team is excited to explore new, dark facets of love in Season 4.’

Seriously, how could it possibly get any darker? Season 3 will see Joe as a new dad as he tries to live a somewhat normal life with wife Love (Victoria Pedretti). While Joe, surprisingly, is keen to put his criminal lifestyle behind him and embrace his new role as a family man, he’s worried that Love’s impulsiveness could draw him back to his old life.

Author Caroline Kepnes recently spoke to Metro.co.uk ahead of the new episodes, and spoke of the third book in the franchise, You Love Me.

Talking about the attraction to Joe, she admitted that readers voiced their attraction for the murderous book-lover long before Penn took over the role.

‘In 2014, as soon as people started reading the book, I had this devout amazing readership that love Joe,’ she revealed. ‘They love him in the book way, I think that reading is you and the page, it’s a different kind of love.’

You season 3 arrives on Netflix this Friday.
