“Broke My Own Rules”- Dana White Explains Why He Gave Jake Hadley a Contract
Dana White lives by his set of certain rules, especially in his job as the UFC president. However, he broke them for a special fighter from the ‘Dana White’s Contender Series’ and revealed the reasons in an interview.
The former Cage Warriors flyweight champion, Jake Hadley, missed his weight at his DWCS appearance. However, the Brit impressed the UFC supremo with his stunning performance against Mitch Raposo inside the octagon. Hadley secured a submission win against Raposo in the second round of the fight.
The Brit impressed White so much that the UFC supremo broke his own rule of not signing the fighters who miss weight. In the press conference White said, “So when I left the backroom, my instructions were not to sign this guy. And according to Hunter, Sean and Mick stormed out of the room and took off here tonight, so they were not happy about it.”
He added, “I just have a gut feeling that this kid has something special, and I broke all my own rules. Broke my own rules and didn’t listen to what they said. So hopefully I’m right on this and this kid doesn’t make a d***head out of me.”
Even though White’s colleagues were mad at him, he believed in the Brit’s potential and handed him a UFC contract. ‘White Kong’ will enter the promotion with an impressive 8-0 (2 T/KO, 4 submissions) resume. However, he was not the only fighter who got the UFC contract.
Dana White Gives UFC Contract to Three Fighters
Besides Jake Hadley, two more fighters earned the UFC contract by impressing White.
Viacheslav Borshchev clashed against the undefeated fighter Chris Duncan in a lightweight bout inside the cage. Duncan started early in the round and was exploding at Borshchev.

However, he quickly retaliated with hard blows. But the round ended with both men on their feet. The aggression remained the same, only this time Borshchev had his moment and knocked out Duncan with a vicious left in the second round to win a UFC deal.
The third fighter to secure a contract was Martin Buday. He earned an impressive opening-round finish against Lorenzo Hood.
