Cameron Norrie Surpasses Novak Djokovic in Unique Record, Also Turns British No.1 at Indian Wells 2021
British tennis player Cameron Norrie is having the best season of his career so far on the ATP tour as he stunned Diego Schwartzman in straight sets to reach his first-ever Masters 1000 semi-finals at Indian Wells.
Cameron Norrie surpasses Novak Djokovic in a unique record on ATP tour this year
Norrie, who previously reached the finals of Queen’s Club Championships in June, lost to Matteo Berrettini. Even at the on-going BNP Paribas Open, the Brit had to defeat the likes of Tennys Sandgren, Roberto Bautista Agut, and Schwartzman to reach the semis.
With this victory over the Argentinian, Norrie also created a unique record by surpassing Novak Djokovic in terms of the no. of matches won so far this year. While the Serb won 44 matches and faced six defeats, the Brit won 45 contests and lost 20.

With Schwartzman not in the best of forms off late, Norrie pounced on this opportunity and bageled the Argentinian to clinch the first set. The Brit continued the same dominance in the second set and won the match in no time.
Norrie crosses Dan Evans to become the new British no.1
Norrie’s semi-final run will also give him plenty of ranking points when the updated numbers release on Monday. Currently the Brit’s ranked 26th in the world. After Monday, Norrie can easily climb three places above his present ranking.
Also, Cameron Norrie will go past Dan Evans and is all set to become the new British no.1.

Before the start of Indian Wells, Cameron Norrie reached the finals of San Diego Open after defeating top-tier players like Dan Evans, Denis Shapovalov, and Andrey Rublev. With impressive performances throughout the year, the Brit remained one of the improved performers this year on the ATP tour.
Earlier this year, Norrie met Roger Federer in the third-round at Wimbledon at Center court and even managed to take a set off the Swiss.
