Over the past couple of weeks, there’s been some sense of positivity coming from Dominic Thiem and his team as the Austrian revealed to his fans that he wouldn’t be needing a surgery on his right wrist. Even though the recovery is far from over, Thiem looks confident of a comeback at the Australian Open next year.
The Austrian was talking to press on Monday, where he revealed several insights over the status of his injury and the forced change he had to make to his team.
Dominic Thiem responds to firing his fitness coach Alex Stober
Few weeks back, Thiem’s ex-fitness coach, Alex Stober rebuked the Austrian for not having the courtesy to call him and say that he was removed from his job. Thiem gave a statement concerning the same and didn’t talk about the same anywhere until a couple of days ago.
“There have been a few mistakes of course. My mistake, why this also happened through the media, was that I didn’t call him. I’m also not the type of person who calls the same or the next day and then discusses all the problems for hours”, explained Thiem.

The Austrian expressed his disappointment over Stober for slamming him through the media and not contacting him personally to bury the hatchet.
“Other forms of therapy went a little wrong” – Thiem on his initial rehab
“He also didn’t give me a chance to call because he then gave me the slap through the media. Of course I was disappointed. But I definitely want to say that because the whole time was too good for that”, the Austrian continued.
Then, Dominic Thiem went on to explain where his relationship with Alex Stober was strained. When the Austrian got injured at Mallorca, the local doctors immediately suggested him to be off the court for a while.

But, Stober gave a nod to the Austrian regarding his participation at the US Open. Depending on his word, Thiem did a little practice and the injury got worsened as a result.
“[Stober] said the US Open shouldn’t be a problem at all. I then gave up much too early. Then the other forms of therapy went a little wrong. I played for a week and a half and then it happened again. That the tape hops out again”, concluded Thiem regarding his decision to fire Alex Stober.
Despite this minor hiccup, Dominic Thiem looks good enough to start his rehab as he hopes to bounce back on the ATP tour and play at the highest level possible. If the recovery goes well, fans can see the Austrian at an exhibition tournament at Abu Dhabi in December.
