Guilt season 2: Full cast, start time, channel and trailer

The hit series is back on BBC Two (Picture: BBC)

Hit series Guilt is back on the box, with Mark Bonnar’s crime drama returning to our screens.

The BBC Two series picks up two years after the events of the initial 2019 run, with ‘a new four-part series full of twists, turns and deception’ on the way for fans.

Actor Mark is stepping into the lead role as Max McCall once again, with the character released from prison after two years inside.

The last time we saw him, Max was being led off in handcuffs after being sentenced – what will happen this time round?

Here’s everything we know so far.

What’s the plot of Guilt series 2?

The BBC synopsis reads: ‘In an Edinburgh cellar, two gunshots ring out. Across town, Max McCall is released from prison. These two events gradually come together as Max tries to rebuild his life, and new arrival Erin tries to save hers.

‘When Roy Lynch rebuffs Max’s efforts at a reconciliation, Max turns to Kenny for help – despite their troubled history. However, this is a newly confident Kenny, with a budding new relationship, and he provides Max with a tougher challenge than expected.’

It continues: ‘To help his daughter, Roy finally turns to Max and Kenny and forces them to help him. It appears that Max’s fall from grace is complete – but he has a secret motivation to reveal.’

Who is in the cast of Guilt series 2?

Mark is back to lead the cast, and he previously shared thoughts about his character Max and the series as a whole.

The actor said: ‘Max is an ex-lawyer, who has just come out of prison after being found guilty of – we imagine – the manslaughter, rather than murder, of a man who was knocked over and killed at the beginning of series one, while Max’s brother Jake (Jamie Sives) was driving the car.

‘Max was p***ed and it was his car, so Max eventually, after trying to avoid it for the whole series, went to prison. He’s on his uppers and trying to find a way back, but there are ulterior motives at work… all is not as it seems at the beginning.’

Mark stars alongside Stuart Bowman, Sara Vickers, Emun Elliot  and Rochelle Neil.

Discussing series two, the show’s writer Neil Forsyth said: ‘I greatly enjoy people telling me that this series is darker. The first series started with Max and Jake running over and killing an elderly man and then illegally moving his corpse!

‘I honestly couldn’t say if it’s darker or not, it wasn’t a conscious decision, it’s just how the story and the characters came out.’

Is there a Guilt series 2 trailer?

A brief preview clip was recently revealed, giving a tantalising glimpse of what to expect from the new episodes.

The clip shows Max struggling to readjust to life outside of prison.
