Jeremy Clarkson upsets locals again after being accused of ‘using planning loopholes’ to open restaurant on Diddly Squat Farm

Jeremy Clarkson is facing the wrath of villagers in Chadlington once more after he revealed his plans to turn a lambing shed into a restaurant on the site of his Diddly Squat Farm.

The Grand Tour star’s ambitious farming project hasn’t been a complete hit with those living close by in the rural Cotswolds location.

Despite the flurry of attention the village is receiving as a result, Clarkson’s faced various disputes with his neighbours due to the increase in congestion and disruption in the village.

Amid the TV host’s latest project, a new restaurant on-site, a number of complaints from villagers have been reported by OxfordshireLive.

So far, the parish council commented they were ‘concerned’ about the effect the development plans could have ‘on the local community, its existing shops and an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’.

They continued: ‘The number of cars currently visiting this site is already substantial.’

Another source reportedly claimed they believed Clarkson was simply trying to ‘exploit planning loopholes’ to ensure media attention for the farm.

They said: ‘This application is the latest in a series of what is clearly a step-by-step strategy to exploit planning loopholes in order for the applicant to gain publicity for his media career’.

The outlet reported the star cancelled a charity car meet after he feared it would act as ‘the straw that breaks the camel’s back’ in the village.

But it’s not all bad for the star as Clarkson recently won an exciting accolade from the National Farmers Union, where he was declared Farming Champion of the Year 2021.

He said: ‘It feels really weird. I’ve never even been nominated for a Bafta in 30 years of being on television. And now I don’t want a Bafta anymore.

‘I’ve achieved everything! This is great, honestly. I’m so glad so many people enjoyed the show.’

NFU President Minette Batters was full of praise for Clarkson’s efforts in raising awareness of the British farming industry from his Amazon Prime Video show.

She said: ‘When it comes to recognising someone who has done their best to showcase British food and farming over the past 12 months, no one has earned this award more than Jeremy Clarkson.’
