Novak Djokovic Finally Announces Optimistic News Following US Open Heartbreak

After the US Open final defeat, World No.1 Novak Djokovic flew back home to spend time with his family and fulfil off-court commitments. While there were initial speculations that the Serb will most likely sit out for the rest of the season, it appears now that Djokovic intends to play till the end of the season.

The Serbian chose to opt out of Indian Wells and this decision gave rise to speculation that he won’t be playing anymore this year and will try to defend his Australian Open crown in 2022.

But, journalist Sasa Ozmo of Sportklub has confirmed that the 20-time Grand Slam champion intends to finish the season. This means that Djokovic could play the Paris Masters before heading to Turin for the year-end championships.

It’s welcome news for his fans that Djokovic doesn’t want to give any chance to Daniil Medvedev to end the 2021 season as the World No.1 player.

The Serb, who won three slams this year, came close to winning the Calendar Slam but got thrashed in an emotional championship match against the Russian in New York.

Even though Djokovic is yet to make an official announcement regarding his comeback event, it’s highly likely that it will be the indoor hard-court Masters event in Paris. The Serb won the tournament in 2019 and shares an impeccable record at the venue.

With Daniil Medvedev’s surprising loss to Grigor Dimitrov at the on-going Indian Wells event, the Russian failed to add new points to his rankings tally and will now have to defend both his titles in Paris and also at the World Tour Finals.

After a minor hiccup at the US Open, Novak Djokovic might have wanted to end yet another season on a high by clinching the two remaining big titles on the ATP tour this year.
