Vasyl Lomachenko Returns to the Ring on December 11 – Bob Arum Confirms Opponent

One of the most dominant lightweights of all time, Vasyl Lomachenko, will come back and fight once again this year. After fighting in June, he was eager to fight for the lightweight gold again. Unfortunately, as his top rival Teofimo Lopez is lined up for another title defense, Lomachenko will have to fight someone else to keep himself active in the title race.

But who is the Ukrainian boxer facing next? Is he fighting for an interim title?

Per Bob Arum, ‘Loma’ will storm into the boxing ring on December 11 against Richard Commey.

For now, it’s unclear whether Commey and Lomachenko will fight for the interim strap. But, it’s possible that the winner might line himself up for a title shot in 2022. That said, this fight holds some weight and both the boxers will have to come in with their A-games.

More than anyone else, this contest is important for Lomachenko, who wants to reclaim his 135-pound belts. Last year, he lost his WBA, IBF, and WBO lightweight titles to Teofimo Lopez. Right after that fight, he wanted a rematch. However, Lopez and his team had other plans.

‘The Takeover’ still hasn’t defended any of his titles yet, but is expected to do so sometime before the end of 2021. If both Lomachenko and Lopez end up being successful in their next fights, their rematch might go on floors by mid-2022.

Teofimo Lopez vs Vasyl Lomachenko 2 – How will the fight play out?

Lomachenko and Lopez’s first fight went the distance. Here, Lopez was the aggressor for the first half of the fight. But when Lomachenko began his assault, ‘The Takeover’ had no answers.

If the duo enters a rematch, their fight might not go the distance as both the technicians will go for the kill to avoid decision-related controversies.

However, everything depends on how the duo fares in their next contests. It will be interesting to see if they really get past their against their opponents and battle each other in a rematch.
