Resident Evil 25th anniversary plans teased for Halloween

Hey, whatever happened to Resident Evil Re:Verse? (pic: Capcom)

Throughout the rest of October, Capcom will be sharing secret Resident Evil announcements for its 25th anniversary.

This year marked the 25th anniversary of Capcom’s Resident Evil series, and while it technically took place back in March, Capcom still has some special announcements to celebrate the occasion.

The official Japanese website lists exactly nine announcements that Capcom plans to make throughout October. This is quite fitting given the Halloween season and that Resident Evil has featured all manner of monsters, from zombies to werewolves, although its creatures are a result of twisted science rather than anything supernatural.

So far, Capcom has already unveiled two projects. The first is a Twitter competition to win Resident Evil merchandise, while the second is a reminder for Resident Evil 4 VR, which is releasing for the Oculus Quest 2 on October 25.

As for the remaining seven, three are scheduled for October 21, followed by two more on October 22. The penultimate announcement will take place on October 25, with the final one happening on October 29.

While Capcom gives no hint as to what any of them are, fans can probably make a few educated guesses. One of them must surely have something to do with the upcoming live action movie that’s releasing in December.

In terms of games, Resident Evil Village is also meant to be receiving DLC at some point. Capcom announced this back at E3, but didn’t share anything about it. If it’s anything like Resident Evil 7’s DLC, it will likely be story based and further flesh out some of Resident Evil Village’s characters and backstory.

Given the unexpected popularity of Lady Dimitrescu, don’t be surprised if the DLC centres around her.

There is also Resident Evil Re:Verse. Bet you forgot about that one, didn’t you? We can’t blame you since it almost looks like Capcom has too.

Another attempt at a competitive multiplayer Resident Evil game, it was meant to release alongside Resident Evil Village in May. But after being delayed to the summer, it was pushed back again to an even vaguer 2022 release window.

It’s probably unlikely that one of these announcements will be an entirely brand-new game, although there were rumblings of a third Resident Evil Revelations game, titled Resident Evil Outrage, earlier in the year.

At the very least, don’t go expecting a Resident Evil 9 announcement. Or even any mention of the Resident Evil 4 remake, since development on that was supposedly rebooted.
