Hardcore You fans in the middle of a binge-fest as the highly anticipated third season made its Netflix debut on Friday morning, however fans noticed a touching tribute to Mark Blum, who played Mr Mooney in earlier seasons, at the end of the episode.

The latest chapter of psychological thriller sees Joe Goldberg (played by Penn Badgley) and wife Love Quinn-Goldberg (played by Victoria Pedretti) adjusting to life in the suburbs while raising their newborn baby, Henry Forty Quinn Goldberg.

Viewers were quick to notice a touching tribute at the end of the episode which said: ‘In loving memory of Mark Blum.’ but who was Mark Blum?

Who was Mark Blum?

Desperately Seeking Susan actor Mark Blum, who also specialised in theatre, tragically died aged 69 on 25 March last year following complications from coronavirus.

Episode one in season three, titled ‘And They Lived Happily Ever After’, is dedicated to the star. His character was the owner of Mooney’s and was the stern surrogate father of Joe.

In the series, the book store owner suffered a stroke, however Joe had already left for Los Angeles to get away from his former girlfriend Candace Stone (Ambyr Childers), and was unable to reach him in time.

The star died in New York and a close family friend, actor Lee Wilkof, explained during the Covid-19 pandemic that Mark had suffered from severe asthma.

Known for his roles on both stage and screen, one of his breakout moments was in 1989 in Gus and Al.

Penn Badgley will reprise his role as stalker and killer Joe in season 3 which arrives on Netflix this Friday.

Co-creator Sera Gamble told Variety in a statement: ‘Reading Caroline’s novel, Greg and I were instantly obsessed with Joe Goldberg and his twisted world view. And it’s been thrilling to watch Penn bring Joe to creepy yet compelling life. 

‘The whole You team is excited to explore new, dark facets of love in Season 4.’ 

You season 3 is available to watch on Netflix.
