“He’s Not Even Ranked”- Dominick Cruz Explains Why Sean O’Malley Fight Did Not Happen
Dominick Cruz is a well-known name amongst all MMA fans. ‘The Dominator’ was a two-time UFC Bantamweight Champion as well as the World Extreme Cagefighting’s last bantamweight champion. Cruz has an excellent MMA record and is now ranked 11th in the UFC’s Bantamweight Division as of October 2021. He now holds an outstanding MMA record of 23 victories and 3 defeats.
Cruz is not new to being called out by fighters in the UFC since he rose to stardom. Many competitors have mentioned Cruz’s name since he is arguably one of the greatest bantamweight champions in UFC history. Some time ago, UFC bantamweight star Sean ‘Sugar’ O’Malley took to Twitter to call Dominick out for a fight.
Dominick Cruz recently appeared in an interview with MMAfightingSBN’s Ariel Helwani. During the interview, they discussed a number of topics, one of which was Sean O’Malley. Cruz mentioned in the interview that Sean didn’t really speak to the UFC for a fight, he only hyped it to the media.
He then moved on to discuss Sean Shelby. Shelby is the matchmaker’s matchmaker for the UFC, and she presently serves as Vice President of Talent Relations. he stated, “So if Sean O’Malley wants to fight me or anyone else I know, it’s as simple as sitting in front of Sean Shelby man-to-man eye-to-eye being clearly being precise giving him what you want. And he’ll probably give it to you,”
He was then asked if he would accept a bout against O’Malley if Shelby offered him one. ” So the only reason I wouldn’t fight O’Malley in that context is, he’s not even ranked. And he hasn’t faced a ranked fighter,” he responded. Dominic is well ahead of him in the standings, and he will look to face someone who is higher ranked than him.

What’s next for Dominick Cruz?
The UFC’s December pay-per-view event will feature a significant bantamweight battle. After agreeing, former bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz will face Pedro Munhoz on December 11 at UFC 269. The event’s location and venue have not yet been announced, although it is expected to take place at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Cruz will aim to make it two victories in a row after he won his first fight since 2016 earlier this year. Cruz beat Casey Kenney by split decision at UFC 259 in March, ending his two-fight losing streak.
