“I Will Be There”: Usain Bolt Reveals His Plans for Athletics World Championships 2022

The Olympic sprinting legend, Usain Bolt, might have retired from the field, but he still plays a significant role in the sport. Courtesy of his glories, he took the sport to unprecedented heights, attaining global recognition himself.

Despite announcing his retirement in 2017, Bolt continues to work for the betterment of the sport. Notably, the Jamaican sprinter recently revealed his plans to attend the first-ever World Championships in the USA.

Usain Bolt coming to the US in 2022

While some of the biggest names in the sport hail from the USA, the nation has never hosted the World Championships. The World Athletics Championships were inaugurated in Finland in 1983, and to date, 17 championships have been held.

Finally, the USA will host its first-ever championship in 2022, which was ideally supposed to take place in 2020. However, it was postponed because of the pandemic and the rescheduled Olympic Games. Eugene, Oregon, will be the first American host of the athletics championship from 15th July to 24th July 2022.

Appreciating the World Championships being held in America for the first time, Bolt said, “The U.S. is one of those places where track and field are not that big. So the fact we have brought it to the U.S. now is very important for the athletes to perform and to really get eyes on the sport.”

If not competing, Bolt loves to be present on the field. The legendary sprinter revealed he plans to attend the championships as a priority. “For me, I would love to be part of it. No matter what is going on I will be there,” Bolt said.

It would be a delight for fans, as well as the athletes, to have the fastest man on earth in attendance.

Bolt’s world record under threat

For decades now, Usain Bolt’s 100m and 200m world records have not been surpassed, despite glorious attempts from many.

However, with technology upgrades and young talents rising, Bolt’s world record would definitely be under threat. Do you think 2022 will be the year Bolt’s world record would be broken?
