Kyle Larson Explains Why He’s Ignoring His Huge Points Cushion
Kyle Larson is considered one of the favorites for the 2021 Cup Series championship. He is already entering the Round of 8 on the back of a win at the Charlotte Roval. However, the driver has insisted that he does not have the title in the bag. In a way, he is kind of correct, as the Playoffs can be unpredictable.
Speaking to SiriusXM NASCAR Radio he said, “You hope to never use it, but every win I’ve had this season. It’s definitely made you feel better about when you get to the Playoffs. Last round, we finished 30-something at Talladega, didn’t have a great Vegas. We were able to have that, to not allow us to be in a total muscle-in situation, come the Roval. Had I had just a couple of Playoff points, I would have been in a muscle-in situation.”
Larson likened this potential scenario to the one that William Byron and Alex Bowman faced. The #24 and #48 drivers did not enjoy particularly spectacular results in the first two races, and neither did Larson. However, the #5 driver insisted that he did try not to dwell on his advantage too much.
What else did Kyle Larson say?
He continued, “If I had it or if I didn’t, I would still go in with that mindset, that you’re trying to run up front all race long. Racking up stage points and good finishes, and ultimately you get the win to lock yourself in.”

For the moment, the Asian-American driver is focused on the remaining four races of the season. Without a doubt, he will be aiming to grab a win and seal his Championship 4 berth. Even if he does not manage to do that, he will hope to accumulate enough points to qualify.
Obviously, the likes of Joe Gibbs Racing, Team Penske and his teammate Chase Elliott will also be competing fiercely. However, Larson has been in excellent form this year, so he will try his hardest to outlast everyone.
