Strictly 2021: Fans double take as Adam Peaty and Katya Jones ‘almost kiss’ at the end of steamy Argentine tango

Adam Peaty and Katya Jones caused a moment of surprise for some eagle-eyed fans at the end of their routine on Saturday’s Strictly Come Dancing, with some thinking it looked like the pair were going in for a kiss.

The couple performed a passionate Argentine tango to Fleetwood Mac’s Tango in the Night, set in an abandoned swimming pool.

The Olympian and his professional dance partner put on quite a show with a complicated routine involving several lifts that wowed the judges – Anton Du Beke in particular – and put them joint second on the leader board with 32 points.

However, the routine’s end put them chin to chin, with the 26-year-old swimmer holding Katya, 32, in his arms as she knelt on the floor.

As the music finished and Adam brought Katya up for the customary words of relief and a hug, viewers thought they spotted a little extra something.

One fan tweeted: ‘I swear Adam was gonna kiss Katya then and had to remind himself where he was!’

They added: ‘He puckers his lips, I’m screaming.’

Others agreed with what had been spotted, with one writing: ‘I thought I was the only one who saw that.’

‘I’m just watching it now and I saw his lips go…had to rewind to double check!!’, posted another.

‘He definitely got lost in the moment,’ tweeted one audience member, with a monkey covering its eyes emoji, while another agreed it was an ‘awkward’ moment.

One pointed out: ‘It’s a passionate dance and they did it justice!’

The dance was far better received than the couple’s previous routine, last week’s rumba to I See You from the film Avatar for Movie Week, which put them in the danger zone near the bottom with just 19 points.

However, they avoided the dance off, which saw Katie McGlynn as the second eliminated celebrity after losing to Judi Love.

Strictly Come Dancing continues on Sunday from 7.10pm on BBC One.
