“This Loss Hurts”: Alexander Zverev Gutted After Indian Wells Masters 2021 Loss

The spectacular journey of Alexander Zverev at Indian Wells has come to an end. Zverev, who was the favorite for the title, has crumbled against World No. 39, Taylor Fritz. Despite having two match points, Zverev couldn’t convert it into a comprehensive victory and bowed out of the tournament, in dramatic fashion.

Subsequently, with an unreal performance, Fritz has now entered his first semi-finals at the ATP 1000 Masters tournament. The American will next face Nikoloz Basilashvili for a spot in the finals. Moreover, it looks like Taylor Fritz has fully recovered from his knee surgery as he graciously progressed into the final 4 of the competition.

Alexander Zverev is disappointed

In what was an enticing clash, Taylor Fritz overpowered the World No. 4, in the quarter-finals of the Indian Wells. It took two hours and 22 minutes for Fritz to crush Zverev’s chances of another title. Furthermore, Fritz saved two crucial match points on his way to glory.

Following the major upset at Indian Wells, Zverev expressed his disappointment over the performance. The German said, “This loss hurts because I knew that after Tsitsipas loss, I was the favorite to win the tournament.”

Just before Zverev’s match, Nikoloz Basilashvili won against Stefanos Tsitsipas in a delightful three-set contest. With Stefanos’ exit, Zverev was the most favorite to lift the trophy. However, Fritz showed up in style and ruined the hopes of the German.

Alexander Zverev has had an extraordinary 2021 season. The youngster clinched two Masters titles, won gold at the Olympics, and made it to two Grand Slam semi-finals earlier this year. On his road to the quarter-finals at Indian Wells, he surpassed some big names like Gael Monfils and three-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray.

Taylor Fritz to play his first ATP 1000 Masters semi-finals

Taylor Fritz registered his first ATP 1000 Masters semi-finals at Indian Wells. He stood like a rock and prevailed over Alexander Zverev in an enchanting three-set thriller. Even though trailing behind by one set, Fritz generated the momentum to overcome Zverev and win the game.

In the on-court interview, he stated, “I really wanted to make him have to close me out, and I was able to get back into the match. Normally you would be so nervous in those situations and in the third set tie-break, but I felt so confident being aggressive, going after my game. It feels really great to play well with the pressure on.”

Fritz will now face Nikoloz Basilashvili to book a place in the finals of Indian Wells. What do you think, will the American continue his dream run or will he be stopped in his tracks?
