UFC Fight Night: Ladd vs Dumont- Jim Miller vs Eric Gonzalez: Prediction and Analysis

UFC Vegas 40 will go down later tonight at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. The fight card reflects many amazing fights. One of them is the lightweight bout between Jim Miller and Erick Gonzalez. This contest between the two unranked fighters will take place on the main card.

While Miller is currently on a two-fight skid, Gonzalez is on a two-fight winning streak. Considering this, ‘A-10’ will be desperate to return to the win column against a newcomer who will experience a UFC fight for the first time. Meanwhile, Erick Gonzalez will look to trump the veteran and justify the UFC’s faith in giving him a contract.

Ahead of the fight, we compare their strength and weaknesses and come close to a conclusion on how the scrap could possibly end.

Jim Miller vs Eric Gonzalez: Battle of the Lightweights

Miller has been in the UFC for a long time and has had quite a decent career. In 48 fights, ‘A-10’ has put together a 32-16 record. Interestingly, the veteran is a submission expert with eighteen submission wins on his resume.

Gonzalez, on the other hand, has a 14-5 professional fighting record with eight knockouts and one submission win under his name. Coming into the fight, the 29-year-old has a clear 3-inch height and 4-inch reach advantage over the 38-year-old.

Erick Gonzalez might use this reach advantage for a distance exchange to secure an early finish. However, ‘A-10’ has not been finished since his last loss against Dan Hooker in 2018. That being said, he is in danger of a finish as his 2.92 significant strikes absorbed doesn’t make for good reading against a high-volume offense fighter like Gonzalez.

Miller has more experience and has fought fighters with more caliber than the UFC debutant. Furthermore, he could look to negate the reach disadvantage by taking the fight to the floor and trying to secure a submission. With 56% of his career wins coming via submission, it shows that he is extremely adept at this.
