Valve Says no to NFT and Blockchain Games on Steam; Epic Has Other Ideas

Valve will no longer support games that use NFT, cryptocurrency and Blockchain on steam. Without any prior notice or announcement, Valve suddenly removed all the games on Steam that have NFT or cryptocurrency on them. NFT as well as cryptocurrency games have a huge fan following, as they have gained a lot of popularity over the past few years.

An official new guideline is also published that reads, “Applications built on blockchain technology that issue or allow the exchange of cryptocurrency or NFT” are not allowed on the platform. However, these bans from Vault won’t stop the game completely. The games can work perfectly fine on other servers, just their reach will no longer be widespread like on the Stream server.

Stream hasn’t addressed this ban yet. And the main reason behind this whole ban prohibition is still a mystery. Some users suspect that this ban is partly due to the policy of steam that doesn’t allow it to sell games that feature real-world value products. Above all, Blockchain gaming is a disruptive technology as some titles allow gamers to earn real profits instead of depending upon third-party distributors such as Steams.

If not Valve Steam, then what?

Blockchain-based games can find their homes on Epic Games store. Epic Games is all set to welcome games on its platform that are banned from Valve’s steam. Epic Games is all set to take full advantage of this opportunity to compete with its most popular rival. Just after a few hours, Tim Sweeney tweeted, “Epic Games store will welcome games that make use of blockchain tech provided they follow the relevant laws, disclose their terms, and are age-rated by an appropriate group. Though Epic’s not using crypto in our games, we welcome innovation in the areas of technology and finance.”
