WWE SmackDown results, grades: Brock Lesnar claims Paul Heyman betrayed Roman Reigns

Brock Lesnar ended WWE SmackDown on a major bombshell as he claimed Paul Heyman has betrayed Roman Reigns before Crown Jewel.

The Beast Incarnate left viewers buzzing after a stacked edition of the blue brand’s weekly show and called into question Heyman’s on-screen relationship with the Universal Champion.

Reigns and Lesnar both came to the ring – the Tribal Chief flanked by his special counsel, of course – to sign the contract for next week’s huge title match in Saudi Arabia.

Roman told Heyman to read over the paperwork to make sure it was to their satisfaction, and he put his name on the dotted line once he knew it met their approval.

Lesnar then simply signed the piece of paper, which led to Reigns mocking him for not being smart enough to go over the paperwork.

That’s where Brock left everyone – including those in the ring – stunned as he claimed: ‘I already read the damn contract earlier this morning… with my advocate.’

Now, the Head of the Table – who glared at Heyman to end the show – is left wondering whether or not his special counsel has betrayed him, or if it’s mind games from the Beast.

This was a fantastic way to round off a stellar episode of SmackDown, and add a bit of drama going into Crown Jewel.

Sasha Banks pins Becky Lynch, Liv Morgan costs Carmella and Finn Balor beats Sami Zayn

SmackDown kicked off with a fantastic promo from Edge as he addressed Seth Rollins’ recent actions, and admitted the Drip King isn’t actually Edge-Lite.

He called him his own man and insisted that’s why he has to end things next week inside Hell In A Cell, nothing he could have simply responded in kind and gone to Seth’s home for a chance encounter with Becky Lynch.

He vowed to put him down and stomp out his rival ‘for good’.

Later in the night, Rollins hit the ring to deliver his own rebuttal, and insisted he isn’t intimidated by the prospect of facing Edge inside HIAC because he’s got more experience in the structure.

He referenced the way the cell changed his career trajectory, and promised to settle his issues with Edge at Crown Jewel.

Onto the in-ring action, as the first match of the night saw Finn Balor beat Sami Zayn in the semi-finals of the King of the Ring tournament.

There was no way these two would put on anything less than a great match, even if the result wasn’t really in doubt – and now the question is whether WWE does the right thing by having Xavier Woods face Finn in the final next week.

Naomi was meant to take on Sonya Deville in the latter’s return to in-ring action, but she insisted the match was actually a handicap match as she teamed with Shayna Baszler.

She put up a valiant fight considering the Queen of Spades’ recent destructive run, but in the end the numbers game cost Naomi as the Karifuda Clutch left her open to a cocky pin from Deville.

The Queen’s Crown tournament sadly stayed true to its disappointing theme with a match lasting less than three minutes as Carmella (who opted against wearing her mask) faced Zelina Vega.

The ending came as the Most Beautiful Woman in All of WWE decided to get her protective covering, only for Liv Morgan to appear with it in hand, raising her fist and leaving her rival scurrying into the ring where she was pinned with a rollup.

Happy Talk with Happy Corbin and Madcap Moss had some cringey jokes before Rick Boogs and Shinsuke Nakamura came out to interrupt them, but that was about it.

The Usos and Street Profits clashed in a wild brawl (Picture: WWE)

Things picked up next with a SmackDown Tag Team Title match with The Usos successfully defending against The Street Profits in a Street Fight.

This was phenomenal and deserves plenty of praise as two of the best duos in the entire business delivered something special.

Finally, the main event of the night saw Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch – going commercial free – absolutely blew everyone away with a PPV-quality bout.

It was one of the best WWE bouts – certainly on television – in recent memory, as they went all-out and gave fans something special.

The ending was done perfectly too, with Bianca Belair getting involved and whipping Lynch’s hand and leaving her open to a Backstabber to give the Legit Boss a massive win.

*WWE SmackDown airs Friday nights at 1am on BT Sport 1.
