WWE superstar Sha Samuels has been flaunting the result of his hard work after getting himself into incredible shape.

The NXT UK wrestler – who made his name in across the independent scene in companies like Glasgow’s PCW and Preston-based PCW before getting signed by WWE in January 2021 – is ready to hit another level after pushing himself during lockdown.

Opening up on his transformation, Sha – who welcomed another baby into the world this week – exclusively told Metro.co.uk: ‘It all started with doing walks. I was showing my kids, we’ve gotta be more active.

‘They like their iPhones, iPads, PlayStations – no, you’ve gotta get some steps in! Come on! You’ll regret it! So, I was trying to be motivational for them, and after a while I just carried on with it.

‘Watching the programme The Last Dance on Netflix. Michael Jordan, seeing all that, his winning mindset. “You know what, I’m gonna stick with this?” It worked out. Having that positive mindset, good things happen.’

Sha has kept up with his regime, which sees him doing weight training and running every day, and ‘obviously wresting training’ as much as possible.

‘Getting 20,000 steps in a day minimum – which is a lot, a lot of walking,’ he admitted. ‘But just put a podcast in and walk for ages. Watching my diet – they’re the main things.’

It’s been a long journey for Sha, who had plenty of offers for WWE tryouts in the past but he never had the self-confidence to take advantage of those opportunities.

‘That’s been a detriment for a while,’ he explained, revealing he then had a tryout at the London-based Performance Centre in 2019, which led to an untelevised match that summer, and a contract offer.

However, there was one more hurdle in January the following year, when he failed the medical test and suffered another setback.

‘Unfortunately, I didn’t pass the medical, I wasn’t fit and healthy. But them said, “We’ll give you a call in six months or so, see how you are, we’ll and talk about bringing you back in,”‘ he explained.

‘Obviously the pandemic hit, I didn’t know what was happening – I didn’t wanna bother them, there are a lot important things in the world.’

After his fitness drive, he decided to get in touch – and just like that, he landed his dream job.

‘I got in shape over lockdown. I thought, you know what? I’m gonna email them, see what’s going down,’ he smiled. ‘I emailed them, came back for another week and got offered a job.’

Sha was back in action earlier this week as NXT UK welcomed back fans to the BT Sport Studio, and he admitted fans will see the benefit of his efforts.

‘The way I work in the ring will be the same, but I’ll just be a lot more faster, have better conditioning,’ he explained. ‘So I’ll be able to have longer matches and entertain for a lot longer.’

With a live crowd to feed off, Sha is sure to thrive as he gets back in the same environment where he built up his reputation across the UK.

‘That’s my strength! Being in front of that crowd, feeling that energy – and having a laugh with them,’ he chuckled. ‘Winding them up and having a laugh with them is my forte!’

*NXT UK airs Thursdays at 8pm on the WWE Network.
