It’s not always the easiest watch, but the darkly gripping drama Angela Black is captivating viewers on ITV.

The show tackles tough subject matter as it follows Angela (Joanne Froggatt), a woman with a seemingly idyllic home life and charismatic husband Olivier (played by Michiel Huisman).

It’s not long though before the viewer discovers that not all is as it seems.

Soon, they see through the façade and discover that Angela is a victim of domestic abuse.

The series focuses on her turbulent home life, which is changed forever after a mysterious stranger comes to her with life-shattering news – but can he be trusted?

The show has started strongly, but how many episodes are there?

Here’s everything we know.

There are six episodes in the new series, with the self-contained story expected to play out to completion in that time.

The first instalment arrived on ITV back on October 10, with the episodes set to arrive weekly in the Sunday 9pm time slot. The final instalment will air on November 14.

The show tackles difficult subject matter, with the series tackling a challenging domestic abuse storyline.

Some of the scenes make for tough viewing, and actor Michiel admitted that they took its toll on him during filming.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk and other gathered press, the actor said: ‘There were days that I was dreading it a bit. I thought “Oh, my God, we’re gonna do this horrible scene.”’

The actor also discussed the process he underwent to make the abusive character more three dimensional.

‘The challenge for me was to understand why he would do that. Only then I could play it. Even when you’re playing a character who turns out to be a horrible guy like Olivier, I need to sympathize with this guy, I need to understand him. So that was my challenge.’

Angela Black continues on Sunday night at 9pm on ITV.
