Lamar Jackson To Have His College Football Jersey Retired

Lamar Jackson used to dominate college football invincibly. He made a legacy out of his years in college by winning the Heisman Trophy. And it all started during his days as a Louisville Cardinals quarterback sporting a No. 8 jersey; a jersey he wears even up to this day.

Louisville announced on Saturday that they have decided to retire the No. 8 jersey earlier worn by the now Ravens star quarterback, Lamar Jackson. And they will do so in a ceremony during their game against Syracuse.

Louisville is all praises for Lamar Jackson

“I feel like I won a Heisman again,” Jackson exclaimed as the school broke the news during a video announcement as the Ravens quarterback prepared to do media interviews in Baltimore.

And so with the retirement of the No. 8 jersey of Jackson, he will join Johnny Unitas as the only players in Louisville to have their numbers retired.

“Lamar earned the Heisman and then the NFL MVP, and he’s not even 25 years old. Even more remarkable, he’s only getting better,” Louisville athletic director Vince Tyra said. he goes on to appreciate the spirit carried by the young quarterback, mentioning his humble approach to his teammates, coaches and staff members.

He further states, “We’re so proud to retire his number 8 for what he has accomplished so far but are equally excited about what’s to come.”

Jackson, a college superstar

“We couldn’t ask for a better representative of our football program,” Louisville coach Scott Satterfield said. “Lamar’s influence goes far beyond our campus — he’s got this entire city behind him every day and we can’t wait to welcome him home.”

Jackson will attend the ceremony in Louisville, as the Ravens will play against the Miami Dolphins that week. Being the youngest ever to claim the Heisman Trophy in 2016 at 19, followed by an NFL MVP honor in 2019. Jackson is a deserving player to receive such honors from his school.
