“Mistakes Creep in” – Sebastian Vettel Reveals Reason for His Much-Publicized F1 Errors
The Turkish GP was an odd one for Sebastian Vettel. For a driver who doesn’t make mistakes on the track, the unusual decision to switch to slicks on the damp track was surprising. Nonetheless, Vettel explains the reason behind the move and why he knows the team will improve.
The four-time champion has had quite the journey to his current team, Aston Martin. A re-birthed team, with a lot of changes and developments going on, Vettel’s experience plays a crucial part; as seen in Baku and Hungary. Looking at the season so far, Vettel believes the team can do more. “I feel we can improve. Now I feel more comfortable in the car and I like it a lot. We still have a few races to do and I feel good things are about to happen.”
While the two podiums reflected how well the car was doing, there have been times Vettel has missed out on points altogether. Explaining his war with the points’ positions and the errors making their way into the race, Vettel explained, “I’m not good when it comes to getting only a few points. Mistakes creep in. It seems different when I can drive for podiums or victories.”
Sebastian Vettel on how Aston Martin can improve
Even though Vettel is getting used to fighting for points instead of podiums, he knows his place in the team’s development. Seb is at the forefront in helping Aston Martin eventually become a championship-contending team. Till then, however, he is willing to improve and make the most of each race.

Over the last five races, Aston Martin hasn’t been performing the best on Sundays. Reasoning why the team is falling behind, Vettel said, ” I think we have not just been very good in getting the small opportunities. I think when the big opportunities were there, we were there to strike and we got a lot of points.” Vettel knows the “small mistakes” have cost the team in the big races.

However, with six races to go, Vettel looks to end the season with more points in the bag. “I think we would love to be a bit more in the mix and have the extra pace to be a bit more competitive to be at ease with the AlphaTauri and Alpines; control the situation a bit more.”
Now, with the Turkish GP in the past, Vettel will head to Austin and hopefully, we see our driver in green step on the rostrum before the season ends.
