My baby girl spent her 1st birthday on a ventilator & has been rushed to hospital 6 times in 5 months ‘over mouldy home’

A DESPERATE mum told how her baby girl spent her first birthday on a ventilator over “damp and mould” in her home.

Mum-of-three Samantha Pugh, 35, said her tot Sienna had to be rushed to hospital six times in just five months due to issues with their home in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire.

During one hospital visit in May, the situation was so dire that Sienna was sedated and put on a ventilator to help her breath – and spent her birthday on the machine.

Samantha is begging Bromford Housing to move them but – despite a letter from Sienna’s respiratory consultant – the social housing firm haven’t found a replacement, the mum claims.

She told Gloucestershire Live that during Sienna’s hospital visit, medics asked if there was “damp and mould in the property”.

Samantha said that on further inspection, severe mould in the bathroom was affecting almost all rooms in the house – forcing the mum and baby to sleep in the living room.

Samantha added: “Under the bath the damp is so bad there are holes in the floor which leads to the hallway ceiling.

“So every time one of us has a bath we have to put a bowl underneath on the floor. I worry the floor will come away now.

“I knew we had damp in the kitchen and in my bedroom, so Sienna and I sleep in the living room.”

Sienna went back into hospital in June, July and twice in August.

She says the damp has meant her daughter has been on an inhaler every three hours – but only when in the house.

Bromford’s associate director of localities Natalie Colfer said: “We’re sorry for the delay in finding Ms Pugh and her family a new home, but unfortunately, there is a shortage of affordable properties right across Gloucestershire at present.

“After she provided us with medical information about her children’s health in September we have agreed to transfer her to another one of our homes.

“However, as we own fewer than 900 in Cheltenham, it means Ms Pugh has to wait for one of those to become available.

“We are speaking with Ms Pugh at least once a week to update her on the search for a new home and will let her know as soon as one becomes available.

“We have carried out a survey of her home to determine what work needs to be carried out to resolve the issues she is experiencing.

“We are now planning how best to complete this work with minimal disruption to the family and the health of the children.

“Any work that is remaining after we have found Ms Pugh a new home will be completed before the next family moves in.”
