Sandor Martin Upsets a Returning, Rusty Mikey Garcia
It was shocking to see Mikey Garcia lose against his Spaniard rival Sandor Martin via a majority decision of 95-95, 97-93 in tonight’s DAZN-Matchroom headliner. Despite all his confidence, Garcia fell prey to Martin’s impeccable movement and had very little to offer inside the squared circle.
While constantly targeting for the power shots, Mikey Garcia lost control of his rival. It was Sandor Martin’s night from that point. Now, 40-2 as a professional, Mikey Garcia’s only two losses have come against southpaws strikers. It may remain as a blueprint for several more contenders at 147. However, Martin deserves all the credit for no. Here’s a deeper look into the fight.
What a beginning!
The dramatic start saw lights go off for a few seconds when Garcia and Martin were already engaged in a heated, in-ring affair. However, it didn’t take away the intense action from being displayed. Both men looked tactical from the beginning and didn’t rush for a kill.
Coming in as a massive underdog, Sandor Martin’s commendable body movement helped him counter a lot of Garcia’s actions. Martin also plated his power punches. But Mikey Garcia‘s combinations continued to offer heat from the other end. After three close rounds, Garcia picked up pace in the fourth.

He shot down Sandor Martin aggressively. But that didn’t do him much benefit. Martin didn’t seem to leave the fight easily. Mikey Garcia threw a barrage of shots in round five, but Martin was quick to escape them all. It was quite frustrating to witness for Mikey Garcia’s loyalists. With 30 seconds remaining of the round, Garcia became violent and shook his fans. It paved the road to an intriguing round six.

Mikey Garcia vs Sandor Martin – More Action
Sandor Martin looked extremely disciplined in round six. Despite being stalked by a four-division world champion, the Spanish boxer didn’t lose his confidence. Martin’s footwork and movement became extremely effective. Mikey Garcia’s headhunting looked exposed, as Martin defended himself throughout.
While Martin seemed to be focusing on winning rounds, Garcia was adamantly hunting for a stoppage. It intensified the fight but clearly made Martin look the superior boxer for a brief period. T 2:16 minutes of round eight, a scorecard showed Martin to be 4 points over Garcia. Just then, Sandor Martin became the aggressor and wobbled his American rival with some good shots.
There was no doubt about Sandor Martin’s southpaw stance getting an edge in the whole fight. Mikey Garcia looked helpless. On the other end, Martin entered the final round with lion-heart confidence.

Before the 10th round, Martin’s corner advised him to remain calm and create history. The Spaniard displayed a similar mindset when the fight resumed. The Spaniard moved all around the ring and slipped away from Garcia’s best shots. Bith men exchanged haymakers in the final seconds, but there was no denying Martin’s supremacy.
