Susan Sarandon has recalled speaking to her former lover David Bowie for a final time just days before he died.
Let’s Dance hitmaker Bowie died in January 2016 at the age of 69 following a private battle with liver cancer.
He had dated Susan, 75, after meeting on set of 1983’s The Hunger in which they both starred.
The actress has now revealed she was able to reconcile with the musician not long before he died.
Speaking to The Mail on Sunday’s You magazine, she said: ‘I was fortunate enough to be closer to him right before he died, the last couple of months. He did find me again.
‘We talked to each other and said some things that needed to be said. I was so fortunate to be able to see him when he told me what was going on with him.’
Following their romance, Bowie went on to marry supermodel Iman and they shared daughter Lexi, now 21.

However, there is no bad feeling between Iman and Susan, who revealed she has ‘kept in touch’ with the model.
‘I love his wife Iman, someone who was so equal in stature to him. That was clearly who he was destined to be with,’ she said.
The Thelma & Louise actress saw Bowie for the final time at the New York premiere of his musical Lazarus in December 2015, which was a month before he died aged 69.
She did have the pleasure of speaking to him after that, for the last time, but is unable to recall the details of their conversation.
‘I wasn’t sleeping so I took a pretty strong sleep aid,’ Susan revealed. ‘And I had this dream that David had called me and that we’d had this conversation. Then later I thought, “Did he actually call me?”
‘And I went to my phone and he had. But I have no recollection of what that conversation was.

‘He died a week later. It’s all so frustrating.’
Susan, who split from screenwriter Jonathan Bricklin in 2015, recently said she feels as though the ‘window has closed’ on romantic relationships for her. However, she remains hopeful that she can still find her soulmate and isn’t shutting the door completely.
