Bradley Walsh is breathing new life into the much-loved sitcom The Darling Buds of May, in his new series The Larkins on ITV.

The actor and Chase host stars as loveable wheeler dealer Pop Larkin in the reboot of the classic show and he appears alongside Joanna Scanlan, Peter Davison and Bridgerton star Sabrina Bartlett in the six part series. 

Like the original, the programme tells the story of a working-class family in rural 1950s Kent, with six children led by Pop and his wife Ma.

The Darling Buds of May ran for three series between 1991 and 1993. There were a total of 20 episodes made.

The Larkins is a fresh take on a classic British TV show, but what are the Darling Buds of May cast doing now?

Sir David Jason led the cast of the series as Pop. The actor was already a national treasure thanks to his roles in Only Fools and Horses, A Touch of Frost and Open All Hours.

Since the show, he has gone on to star in many more projects, with Only Fools and Horses coming to an end in 2003. He also voices Captain Skipper, the uncle of Pip in the children’s show Pip Ahoy!. 

The 81-year-old married his partner Gill Hinchcliffe in 2005 and they have a daughter together.

Pam Ferris starred as Ma in the original sitcom.

She’s enjoyed a multi-faceted career ever since, and popped up in major films – with roles as Miss Agatha Trunchbull in Matilda to Aunt Marge in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Her biggest role of more recent years came in Call The Midwife. 

She also starred in two episodes of Gavin and Stacey in 2009 as Smith’s mum Cath.

The show’s biggest breakout star was Catherine Zeta-Jones, who played eldest daughter Mariette in her breakout role. 

Her career has seen her star in major Hollywood films like The Mask Of Zorro, Traffic, Ocean’s Twelve and Chicago – for which she won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.

Catherine famously married Michael Douglas in 2000. The pair have two children together and live in rural New York state.

Tax inspector Cedric ‘Charley’ Charlton, who marries Mariette, was played by Philip Franks.

His varied career has seen him star and direct radio plays and perform onstage with the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Fans of Countdown might well remember his regular appearances alongside Susie Dent in Dictionary Corner. He applied for the show before become better known until 2006. 

The Larkins continues on Sunday at 8pm on ITV.
