BRITS are bracing for ten days of storm hell to hit from TOMORROW with snow predicted this week as the mercury plunges below zero.

A low-pressure front from the Atlantic is set to plough into the UK from Monday – bringing with it lashings of torrential rain and gales.

Temperatures are set to nosedive around-mid week putting parts of the UK in the firing line for hail and snow – with Brits warned to wrap up warm on the run up to Halloween and Bonfire Night.

Jim Dale – meteorologist for British Weather Services – said: “A very turbulent period of weather is one the way bringing a big change from the calm conditions we have seen lately.

“Low pressure will push in from the Atlantic through the start of the week carrying a lot of rain and putting parts of the country at risk of gales.

“It will turn colder later in the week and there could be a risk of snow which if it comes, will fall over the hills of Scotland.

“The stormy pattern is expected to hold out until end of the month with a very wet, windy, and possibly stormy, Halloween on the cards.”

The stream of low pressure will kick any chance of a mild late-autumn to the curb as it sinks southwards.

Milder air from the south will push temperatures to 20C at the start of this week.

But Brits should enjoy it while they can before the northerly chill grips, Jim added.

He said: “Two low-pressure systems will affect the weather on Monday and Tuesday dragging mild air in from the south, and in London we could see 20C.

“Heavy downpours will bring a real risk of flooding to parts of the country as these low-pressure systems come in from the Atlantic

“Through the second half of the week there will be a change in wind direction from southerly to more northerly and this will make it feel colder.

“It is time to get ready for a big change in the weather with a real witches brew in the run up to Halloween.”

The Met Office confirmed snow is “expected on mountain tops across Scotland” this week.

A spokeswoman said the wild weather could turn “sleet into snow” and hit by the early hours of Thursday, and last all day until 10pm.

Parts of Wales and Scotland could be blanketed by 6am next Sunday.

But even southern coastlines could get a dusting in a “rare” forecast last seen in 2008.
