EA and DICE’s new Battlefield game is out in a month’s time so here’s a rundown of everything you need to know before release.
Given how many leaks there were surrounding the newest Battlefield game, even before it was formally announced, Battlefield 2042 can be considered one of the worst kept secrets of 2021.
But that doesn’t really matter anymore; it’s real and after months of EA’s coyness it has steadily revealed more info about the game and even ran a beta preview to give fans an early taste.
Battlefield 2042 is now in a good position to give Call Of Duty a run for its money, but it’s too soon to tell how successful EA’s military multiplayer shooter will really be. For now, here’s everything you need to know ahead of Battlefield 2042’s release.
When is the Battlefield 2042 release date?
Battlefield 2042 will release on November 22. It was meant to release on October 22 but EA and developer DICE opted to delay it due to the pandemic. Or you can start playing it on November 12 if you buy the Gold or Ultimate Edition, or subscribe to EA Play (see below).
Which platforms is Battlefield 2042 available for?
The game releases for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam, the Epic Games Store, or EA Origin.
Are there any Battlefield 2042 special editions?
There are three different Battlefield 2042 editions available for pre-order. The standard edition is what it says on the tin and only includes the game. Of course, there are pre-order bonuses, specifically an Irish – Battle Hardened Legendary Skin, a Baku ACB-90 Epic Melee Takedown Knife, a Mr. Chompy Epic Weapon Charm, and a Landfall Player Card Background and Old Guard Tag.
The Gold Edition comes with all of that plus the Year 1 Pass, which includes four new Specialists, four battle passes, and 3 Epic skin bundles.
The Ultimate Edition comes with everything in the standard and Gold editions, as well as a Midnight Ultimate Bundle, digital artbook and digital soundtrack. You can find all these details by going to the official website and checking the Pre-order Now section in the top right.

Can I play Battlefield 2042 early?
Yes, but only by pre-ordering either the Gold or Ultimate Edition or subscribing to EA Play. Doing so will provide access to the game a week before it releases. So, you can start playing from November 12.
How can I play the Battlefield 2042 open beta?
You can’t. The beta ended over a week ago on October 10, and EA and DICE have made no mention of holding another one.
Does Battlefield 2042 have a single-player campaign mode?
No, Battlefield 2042 will be the first entry in the series for quite a while to feature no single-player campaign. Although you will be able to play the multiplayer modes with computer-controlled bots.
Can I get a free Battlefield 2042 next gen upgrade to PS5 or Xbox Series X/S if I buy the PS4 or Xbox One version?
It depends. Originally, EA’s dual entitlement scheme (where you can get both the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 or Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S versions) was only available to those who pre-ordered the Gold or Ultimate Edition.
While it still says that on EA’s website, it recently changed the policy. Now, you’ll receive dual entitlement even if you pre-order the standard edition. If you’ve already pre-ordered the standard edition, you don’t need to do it again; the pre-order has already been upgraded to include dual entitlement.
However, this only applies to digital copies of Battlefield 2042, so you won’t receive dual entitlement if you get a physical copy.
You’ll also need to buy the game for PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X/S to get the respective PlayStation 4 and Xbox One version. The PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game will not include access to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions.
Further details can be found on EA’s forums.

Does Battlefield 2042 include cross-play and cross-progression?
Yes to both. As a quick primer, cross-play means everyone can play with/against each other regardless of which platform they own, although there will be a couple of limitations for Battlefield 2042.
Namely, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One owners will be limited to only playing with each other. At the same time PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC owners will all be able to play together.
Cross-progression means all your progress can be saved across the different versions of the game. So, for example, if you start playing on PlayStation 4 but later wish to upgrade to the PlayStation 5, your progress can be carried over so you don’t have to start from scratch.
Unlike cross-play, there are no limitations to cross-progression. Even if you decide to, for example, switch from the PlayStation 5 version to the Xbox Series X/S version, you’ll still be able to bring your progress with you.
