The CJ Cup is one of the more prominent events on the PGA Tour largely owing to its prize money. So how much did the top three positions get at The Summit Club?
The CJ Cup offered a total prize pool of $9.75 million to the field. This was the same prize purse awarded in the 2020 edition, so there was no substantial increase this year. Moreover, the CJ Cup is a no-cut event, so all the competing players earned a piece of the prize money.
Of course, Rory McIlroy earned a huge chunk of the prize money allotment owing to his champion status. McIlroy entered the final round trailing Rickie Fowler by two strokes and then shot a 6-under-66 on Sunday. This was enough to bring him his 20th PGA Tour title.
What was the payday for Rory McIlroy, Collin Morikawa, Rickie Fowler?
Rory McIlroy was treated to the highest payday at the CJ Cup 2021 owing to his final round heroics. McIlroy won a $1,755,000 payout at The Summit Club, while the rest of the prize pool was split between the rest of the field according to the PGA Tour’s standard breakdown formula.
Collin Morikawa gained 12 places in the final round with a 10-under-62 on Sunday. He finished 24-under for the tournament second on the leaderboard. Morikawa received $1,053,000 for his efforts.
Furthermore, 54-hole leader Rickie Fowler was unable to hold onto his lead on Sunday. He fell down on the leaderboard and ended his CJ Cup campaign with a 71 in the final round. Fowler earned $565,500 at The Summit Club, and more importantly, gained his momentum back.
