“No Travel And Jetlag”: Devon Allen Believes US Has The Edge Over Jamaica at World Championships 2022
American track and field star, Devon Allen is a three-time U.S. national champion and a two-time Olympian in 110-meter hurdles. However, if that wasn’t enough, this year’s finals, Devon Allen took his game to new heights in the men’s 110m hurdles.
He successfully made it in 13 seconds at the World Athletics Continental Tour Gold meeting in Zagreb. With that, he became the 13th American hurdler to break the 13-second barrier in this event, with his personal best of 12.99 seconds.
In a recent interview, the star talks about US Jamaican rivalry in hurdles. The constant fight between the two countries in this field has been neck to neck for ages now.
Devon Allen talks about the constant competition with Jamaica
The World Athletics Championships Oregon22 will take place at Hayward Field this time. Allen seems to be pretty excited and confident about the venue and crowd there. Notably, this is familiar territory for him as he represented the University of Oregon here.
“It’ll be pretty cool to be back in Hayward Field,” he said. “I’ve been back there a few times since it’s been the new field.”

He talks about Jamaica who has been consistently competing with the US in hurdles, making them each other’s toughest rivals.
“I think the competition has been building up for the past four or five years between Jamaica and the US. They’ve been very consistent, a lot of fast Jamaican hurdlers, a lot of fast American hurdlers and consistently doing well and winning championships,” said the American track and field star.
Even in Tokyo 2020, Jamaica’s Hansle Parchment grabbed the Gold Medal in the 110m hurdles. Meanwhile, US hurdler Grant Holloway came second. Not only in hurdles but even in sprinting, who infamous rivalry between the US and the Jamaican sprinters is known to all.
Nothing like home
Devon Allen also mentions the advantages for the US athletes with Hayward Field as the venue. The food and area will all be familiar, making it easier for the home-favorites.
“Being in front of a home crowd – especially for me because that’s where I went to school – I think it’s an advantage for all the US athletes,” said Allen.

“We also won’t have to deal with travel and jetlag. We’ll have that advantage and a lot of us in the US will have run at that stadium and will have competed in that stadium a month before to make the US team,” Allen added.
