Xbox Series X/S Models are Outperforming Xbox one in Japan
After struggling a lot in Japan, Xbox Series X and S are showing more signs of life in the same country. Compared to the previous year, the models are doing pretty well now. Xbox Series X and S are selling four times faster than Xbox One.
In just 11 months (less than a year), Microsoft sold over 100,000 units of Xbox Series X in Japan, which is quite impressive, to be honest. Now, according to some reports, Xbox Series consoles could outperform Xbox One lifetime numbers by the end of 2021, probably by November 2021.
Xbox Series X|S has passed 100K units in Japan at 102,591 (Famitsu). This is faster than the Xbox One which needed 50 months to hit 100K.
X: 527
S: 2,920
My opinion: XBS will outsell XB1 in mid to late November. That would be ~115K.

Microsoft’s Xbox Vs Sony’s PlayStation in Japan: And the ultimate winner is…
Japan has been fairly a hard market for Microsoft. Xbox One took over four long years to reach the 100,000 milestone mark, mainly because of the brilliant public marketing strategies and good brand identity of Sony in Japan. But now it looks like somehow the tables have turned. The Xbox Series S managed to top the video game’s best-selling ranking at Yodobashi Camera. It is one of the best electronics retailers in Japan.

So, what’s exactly going on? How are Xbox Series consoles are performing so well in Japan now? Well, Japan is the fastest-growing region worldwide, especially when it comes to the gaming industry. The ultimate launch of Game Pass for Series models and PC in Japan is doing the trick for Microsoft. The wise decision to launch the Game Pass has no doubt helped Xbox a lot to find its audience after all the struggle of the past few years.
The comparison between Xbox and PlayStation consoles is not a fair one, especially in a country like Japan. The brand identity of PlayStation is much stronger than Xbox. Above all, Sony Interactive Entertainment focuses majorly on public marketing of PlayStation consoles in Japan much more than Microsoft does on its consoles. So we can say that the playing field of both the consoles is not even.
However, Xbox may never be able to outperform PlayStation in Japan. Despite that, we can say that it is on the right track and its audience is growing. What do you think about this growth? Also, do you think Microsoft will be able to outperform PlayStation in Japan? Let us know in the comments below.
