Gogglebox star Paige Deville has described her mum as ‘disgrace’ in comments shared on Twitter in the early hours of Tuesday morning shortly after quitting the Channel 4 programme.

Last month, Paige, who joined Gogglebox with her mother Sally Hayward from season 14 in 2019, announced that she had made the decision to leave after two years.

In recent tweets, Paige, 25, spoke out on her relationship with her mum while also responding to recent remarks made about her by Happy Mondays star Shaun Ryder, who questioned if she was a ‘snowflake’ due to her departure from the series.

Paige clarified that her exit from Gogglebox was not related to her relationship with her mum, who is also no longer on the reality show.

In the first of three tweets, she wrote: ‘To clarify, people thinking I fell out with my mom over Gogglebox, my “mom” is an absolute disgrace who I wish to never speak to again due to a serious family issue NOT about a tv show.

‘In regards to Shaun, that’s exactly what I meant by support to deal with trolls like you,’ she added, alongside a kiss emoji.

Paige continued, explaining that when she referred to the ‘aftercare’ of her time on the show, this was in relation to ‘the hidden pressures of the show, feeling nervous about how you may come across to 3 mil viewers, pressures of being funny and making people laugh and if not then judged by trolls and messaged daily abuse about suicide’.

‘These are just a few things I felt needed to be aired about REAL issues being on a reality show. I have never been so happy and free since deciding to leave & that chapter is now closed but felt I have had to justify myself as people are still commenting. BE KIND, always xx,’ she said.

When Paige announced she was leaving Gogglebox, she wrote on social media: ‘I have made the decision to walk away from Gogglebox.

‘It’s been an experience but one I cannot continue with due to long hours of filming, restrictiveness, control of our actions and opinions & zero aftercare support but hey who cares about ex cast, their NTA winners.’

At the time, a Gogglebox spokesperson said in a statement sent to Metro.co.uk: ‘The welfare of contributors – past and present – is of paramount importance and robust protocols are in place to support contributors before, during and after taking part in the series.’
