Great British Bake Off viewers have spotted that vegan baker Freya has been using dairy in the technical rounds.
The 19-year-old student, who is one of the contestants on this year’s series, has been showing the nation how to make delicious bakes without the need for animal-based products with her signature and showstopper masterpieces.
But sadly, Freya’s been unable to use alternative ingredients in the technical challenges set by judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith.
Want to know why? Well, look no further as we’ve got the answers.
Why isn’t Freya using vegan ingredients in the technical?
Eagle-eyed Bake Off viewers have noticed that Freya hasn’t been using vegan ingredients in the technical rounds.
But there’s a very fair reason as to why she’s had to swap her dairy-free substitutes for the real deal.
Freya explained the reason why in a post shared on Instagram earlier in the series.
‘I was desperate to show the world [that] vegan baking is just as exciting, with the hope to inspire people to give it a go,’ she wrote. ‘For obvious reasons, I wasn’t able to change the technical challenge as it would mean the whole show was unfair.’

‘Sorry if this is disappointing to hear but once the show has finished I have plans to veganise the recipes for you all, so I hope this makes up for that,’ Freya added.
Freya has been making plant-based versions of classic bakes for her dad for over a year and has a goal to bake so that no one can tell the results are vegan.
