GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition remasters will have GTA 5 controls reveals leak

Rockstar might not be providing much detail on the GTA Trilogy remasters, but a new leak promises increased draw distances and new lighting.

Although Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition definitely exists, and there is a trailer for it, that’s almost all we know about it at the moment, with Rockstar Games being typically cagey as to what has been changed or improved.

We still don’t know a release date either, other than late 2021, and while that remains a mystery a new datamined product description does shed some new light on the remasters themselves:

‘Three iconic cities, three epic stories. Play the genre-defining classics of the original Grand Theft Auto Trilogy: Grand Theft Auto 3, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas updated for a new generation, now with across-the-board enhancements including brilliant new lighting and environmental upgrades, high-resolution textures, increased draw distances, Grand Theft Auto 5 style controls and targeting, and much more, bringing these beloved worlds to life with all new levels of detail.’

The product description was discovered by dataminer alloc8or on GTAForums, along with a reference to getting $10 off your next purchase if you buy the remaster collection through the Rockstar website.

That came from a page on the Rockstar support site which has now been taken down, although quite why Rockstar is being so secretive about any of this is in itself a mystery. Maybe they’re just doing it out of habit and forgot the games are 25 years old.

The same dataminer also leaked the remaster achievement list so there seems little doubt that all of this is true, it’s just a case of when there’s an official announcement.

If there is an explanation for the secrecy it may be that Rockstar hasn’t decided on the exact release date yet, perhaps because of problems with the physical editions.

Rumours suggest the boxed versions of the next gen editions may be delayed into next year, although that shouldn’t affect the digital launch.

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – Definitive Edition will launch later this year for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
