Kanye West will simply be known as Ye going forward as the rapper has officially changed his name.

Yes, believe it or not, a judge has officially granted the Gold Digger rapper’s petition to change his name.

And we’re not just talking about his first name; the artist formerly known as Kanye Omari West no longer has a middle or last name. He’s just Ye.

According to Deadline, Los Angeles Superior Court judge Michelle Williams Court approved the request which Ye filed on August 24. The 44-year-old noted that he was making the change for personal reasons.

Ye has long been his nickname and he even titled his 2018 album after the moniker, while his Twitter handle has been Ye for some time.

Three years ago, Ye explained to radio DJ Big Boy why he prefers to use Ye, stating: ‘I believe “ye” is the most commonly used word in the Bible. In the Bible it means you.

‘So, I’m you. And I’m us. It’s us. It went from being Kanye, which means the only one, to just Ye, just being a reflection of our good, our bad, our confused – everything. It’s more of a reflection of who we are [as] beings.’

Basically, it perfectly fits in with his god complex.

He also tweeted around that time: ‘The being formally known as Kanye West. I am YE.’

Ye ushered in his new era by sharing a photo on Instagram of his drastic new haircut, which features his hair cut into seemingly random shapes. He shared the image with the Yen symbol, possibly a reference to his name change.

It’s likely Ye was spurred on to legally change his name due to his divorce from Kim Kardashian.

Kim, 40, filed for divorce in February after almost seven years of marriage with the Grammy-winning rapper, but they have been on great terms since with the reality star publicly supporting the release of his latest album Donda this summer.

It was recently revealed that Kim has kept their $60million (£44m) family mansion in the divorce settlement, so she can continue living there with their four children; North, eight, Saint, five, Chicago, three, and Psalm, two.
