Mike Tyson vs. Evander Holyfield Net Worth Comparison: Who Is More Financially Successful?

Evander Holyfield and Mike Tyson are two of the greatest heavyweights of all time. They are fighters that gave the world 2 of the most entertaining and controversial fights in the late 90s. During their prime, these two ruled the boxing scene. They earned hundreds and millions of dollars from each fight. They also spent lavishly, splurging millions of dollars.

However, both the fighters hit a rough patch and their net worth and earnings dropped drastically. Poor financial management led to both fighters selling their most lavish mansions to other celebrities. Tyson declared bankruptcy in 2003, and Holyfield suffered a similar fate in 2008.

Evander ‘The Real Deal’ Holyfield earned upwards of $200 million during his prolific boxing career. However, a string of bad investments led to him falling on hard times. It all started with the fall of his very own record label, Real Deal Records. The demise of Real Deal Records cost him upwards of $3 million dollars.

A botched restaurant business cost Holyfield in the region of $10 million. In 2008, he owed more than $13 million in mortgage payments and was evicted from his 109-room Atlanta mansion. Rick Ross then bought the mansion for a little over $5 million from the four-time world champion.

Besides all this, Holyfield also had to pay child support for 11 children from six different women. All this expenditure and hardly any income put a huge strain on his net worth.

“It is hard to fall down, and I kind of feel like everything is too late. When you don’t have others looking out for you, everybody’s taking something for themselves.”

“Man, they were stealing, just stealing, stealing. [I want to] pass this onto my kids, where they won’t have to worry about the same thing. I used to be foolish, but I ain’t foolish no more.” Holyfield said.

In 2021, Evander Holyfield is worth around $1 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth

Similar to Evander Holyfield, Tyson went down the same path. He earned hundreds and millions of dollars and lost it all in a very short period of time. Tyson earned around $400 million in career earnings, almost twice as much as Holyfield. ‘Iron’ Mike, however, splurged twice as much as Holyfield.

With many bizarre purchases during his career, including a tiger and golden teeth. Tyson spent lavishly and always traveled in style. He owned multiple million-dollar estates around the country and boasted of a supercar collection. After he retired, with no other sources of income, his debts started piling up.
