Roy Jones Jr. Reveals the Only Way to Beat Tyson Fury

Roy Jones Jr. is a former heavyweight champion. Even after retirement, ‘Captain Hook’ is still very active in the boxing scene and is still highly respected. The former pound-for-pound king who went undefeated for 9 years after making his debut now coaches young boxers. He is currently working in the corner of Chris Eubank Jr.

Pro Boxing Fans spoke with Roy Jones Jr after Chris Eubank Jr’s fifth-round win over Wanik Awdijan at the Utilita Arena in Newcastle. The interviewer asked Jones how to beat Tyson ‘The Gypsy King’ Fury.

Roy Jones Jr. replied, saying, “Very tough, you don’t knock him out, you’re in trouble. So if you can’t knock him out you can forget it coz he’s a tough cookie to swallow.”

Prior to the fight, Jones Jr spoke about how Deontay Wilder could possibly beat Fury.

“If he can land that shot, he’s always got a chance. They don’t call him ‘Bomb Squad’ for no reason. He earned that reputation with that name. If he can land that punch, he can change anything. He knows in the back of his mind he can put Fury down with that punch. He’s not looking at it like, ‘I’m going to go out and outbox him’. No, he’s thinking, ‘I’m going to put him down, and hopefully, he’ll stay down’. If not for those two knockdowns, he would have lost two times,” said Jones Jr. (h/t DAZN)

The fight that ensued was one of the greatest heavyweight showdowns of all time. Both Fury and ‘The Bronze Bomber’ left it all out in the ring. They registered multiple knockdowns over the other. However, these took their toll on Wilder, who could not respond following a knockdown in the penultimate round, thus turning it into a knockout for ‘The Gypsy King’.

What’s next for Tyson Fury?

Tyson Fury is currently on a break from boxing and has made no plans regarding his future. When he does decide to come back to the ring, he will have to face the WBC mandatory challenger. Currently, Dillian Whyte holds the WBC interim title. However, he will have to defend it against Otto Wallin on October 30.

Dillian Whyte will be the WBC mandatory challenger for Tyson Fury’s next fight, so long as he wins his fight with Otto Wallin on Oct 30th.

The winner of that fight will challenge Fury for the WBC belt. Fury has already fought Wallin and outclassed him back in 2019. So the fight to make will be Fury vs Whyte, that is, if ‘The Body Snatcher’ gets past Wallin.
